Die Kolosseum in Rom is open almost every day of the year, but its timetable changes with the seasons. In general, the site opens at 8:30 AM, while the closing hour varies depending on daylight and the time of year. Recent visitor guidance shows a seasonal pattern: from 2 January to 15 February the Colosseum is usually open until 4:30 PM; from 16 February to 15 March until 5:00 PM; from 16 March to the last Saturday of March until 5:30 PM; from the last Sunday of March to 31 August until 7:15 PM; during September until 7:00 PM; from 1 October to the last Saturday of October until 6:30 PM; and from the last Sunday of October to 31 December until 4:30 PM. Last admission is normally one hour before closing, so late visitors should keep that in mind.

As for opening days, the Colosseum Archaeological Park is generally open every day of the week, including Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturdayund Sunday. This is useful for travelers because many museums in Italy close one day per week, but the Colosseum does not follow that standard weekly closure pattern. The main regular closing dates are instead tied to national holidays. Current visitor information states that the Colosseum is closed on 1 January und 25 December. These are the two key annual closure dates that travelers should always remember when planning winter trips to Rom.

There can also be exceptional closures or restricted-access dates during the year. For example, the official ticketing channel notes that the Attic section of the Colosseum will be closed from 7 May to 14 May 2026 due to preparations related to Italian Republic Day. This does not mean the whole monument is closed, but it shows that particular areas can become unavailable on specific dates. In terms of visitor traffic, the busiest months are generally April, May, June, Septemberund October, when tourism in Rom is at its strongest. July und August are also very busy, although the summer heat changes visitor behavior and often pushes more people toward early morning and evening entries. The less crowded months are usually November, Januaryund February. March und December are more mixed, depending on holidays and school breaks.
